Where is Your Place of Solace?

Recently, I had time to contemplate this question and thought I would challenge my readers to think about where you find your place of solace.  It could be anywhere you find peace and calm and happiness.

While vacationing in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, I found one location that worked for me.  I rose early (or should I preface that by earlier than I do most days at home) and sat on the balcony with a cup of coffee, drinking in the stillness of the early morning.   There are no distractions; just soaking up the nature of the green palm trees, hibiscus blooms, and tropical foliage.   However, if I listened carefully, I caught the ocean waves waking with the splashing on the shore below.

Other places I find peaceful might be yours too, maybe in your backyard or on a bench at a local park.  It might be atop a blanket having a picnic with a friend.  Or in your canoe fishing, hoping for that next big catch.  Or visiting your grandma in the nursing home.  Or reading my devotion each morning to start my day.

As our world becomes more and more chaotic, uncertain of what tomorrow might bring, and the unfortunate illnesses and cancers that seem to plague our loved ones, I find that I need to find that special place to de-stress so I don’t feel like I’m carrying extra baggage on my shoulders.

It’s probably true for our ancestors before us that finding a quiet place to go and think, meditate, and pray is essential.  Our lives should be balanced so we don’t make radical decisions and untamed detours along the way.  I know that firsthand as I had a family member who unraveled when the road was rough, negatively affecting everyone around them.

Life is a road, sometimes long and sometimes too short.  It can be smooth, bumpy, toss a rock to chip your windshield, contain potholes, or require you to go around the slow person.  It’s a journey – but a journey we all must travel.  Often, we make it uncomfortable, or others might make it awkward for us.

Throughout life, we encounter those who know it all – or those who don’t understand much of anything.  But it doesn’t change that we still need to traverse the road and get to the end of our journey.

Alleviating your pain, suffering, and discomfort solace can relieve the sadness found in our world today.  Find that particular spot, meander awhile, or hide so you can enjoy the moment.  Remember, life is short.  Be kind to yourself and those you love.  Fill your day with happiness, smiles, and beautiful memories.  Don’t dwell on the negative.  Don’t add to the sadness found in so many places right now.

Music can also take you to that place of solace or comfort.  Happiness can be here and now in my space. In a space, we all can create or re-create.  If you are interested in doing further research on the subject, I suggest the following to start your journey.
