- In 1961, Roger Maris broke the home run record
- Jimmy Carter was born in 1924
- In 1908, Ford Motor Company unveiled the Model T
- Johnny Carson debuts as The Tonight Show host in 1962
- In 1987, an earthquake rocked Southern California
- A gunman opened fire in 2017 at a concert crowd in Las Vegas, killing 58 and wounding many others.
