Developing a topic or idea for a post this week has been a chore, and I’m at a loss for words. Okay, I know what you’re thinking. No way could Julie be at a loss for words. Well, it has happened. As I’m typing this blog, my husband, Don, is in extreme pain in his lower back. This isn’t new – he’s had two previous back surgeries. But what is hard is to hear him groan in pain and not be able to do anything to help him.
I’m doing everything possible, taking him to doctor appointments and hospital testing, but when someone that you love is in so much pain – you are in pain also. I’ve taken over his chores and assisted with whatever I can do. We know surgery is inevitable; the sooner, the better, but the surgeon continues to order another test to clarify precisely what needs to be done and where.
In 2020, I also went through an issue with my upper spine. That contributes to my pain as I remember the suffering I went through upon the fusion. All we can do is be there for our loved ones and pray for their quick recovery and relief.
As I have been working on writing my memoir, I have been taking various online classes and webinars. The group that I’m involved with at this time, and my all-time favorite, is Life Writers. Patricia Charpentier, the instructor and author, grew up in Louisiana and now lives in Orlando, Florida. She has developed this organization into a learning atmosphere and a close-knit group of writers. Some have already published a book or two, and others are just beginning – like me. The camaraderie and helpful nature of these writers are like a family.
There are at least three opportunities each week to meet via Zoom, at this post-pandemic time, to hear other authors who have previously published – with their suggestions and comments about the world of writing and publishing. Also, each week she schedules writing time – to keep you accountable. Her website includes all the videos and sessions you can watch at your leisure to increase your prowess for writing. If you would like more information about Life Writers or Writing Your Life, please visit https://lifewriters.us/. I would also be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding this program.
This blog will be short as I’m sure everyone is busy getting ready for Good Friday and Easter.
My wishes for you this Easter are peace, love, and joy.
All my best,
Julie
Sorry to hear about Don’s pain.
In my experience, chronic pain brings with it exhaustion, almost as bad as the pain itself. Hope he gets to a point he’s feeling better, surgery or no.
