We are all finding ourselves in uncertain times. Life, as we knew it a few weeks ago, is gone. When talking with friends one of the first things out of my mouth is: how gas and grocery prices are going up, and the war on Ukraine. What a travesty to see innocent people leaving their country to find safety, becoming injured from bombing after bombing, and many dying.
Our memories and history have taught us the horrors of war. And right now, I believe we’re all trying to understand how this could happen and could this be the beginning of World War III. With satellites and computers, we can see things happening instantly. We are a global community. The media broadcasts the devastation 24-7, and we feel so helpless and full of anxiety for the innocent being targeted.
The first thing I do is pray, pray and pray. And I would love it if you would join me.
Heavenly Father,
We want to pray for the safety and protection of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, especially the young, innocent children. Guard their hearts and guide their path to safety. Help the world to come to their aid and the aid of all those in harm’s way. We know how precious life is and we desire your peace. We pray for the leaders on the world stage, give them the courage to do the right thing for all your people. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
Through these uncertain times, I want to share with you a few of the ideas for dealing with our anxiety.
- Stay positive – know that we’re not seeing all angles of our anxiety and that slowly but surely, we will see the light.
- Lean into it – know that even though we’re not sure what’s ahead for the future, know that you can handle it.
- Practice Mindfulness – if you obsess about what tomorrow might bring – you’re losing out on the present. You can start by writing down the good things that have happened in the past, then journal the positive things that are happening now. Also, meditation is an activity that can utilize deep breathing together with positive thinking to help us embrace the adventure of living.
- Focus on what you can control - we overlook the little things we can do to make life easier for us and for others while obsessing about the big things we have no control over. Right now, you might want to research how you can help Ukrainians.
“Maturity is the capacity to endure uncertainty.”
John Finley
As we all endure the uncertainty around us, let us continue to pray for an end to the war on Ukraine and for their citizens to find peace.
All my best,
Julie
Very timely and good advice.
