I realize it is Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Still, after thinking about the goals I set for myself on January 1, 2022, I thought it might be an exciting exercise to challenge myself to give advice to myself for the future. Play along with me and maybe try the exercise yourself.
- Be a good listener; take the time to listen to the needs of others.
- Don’t hold on to anger, jealousy, or resentment. If you hold on, it only hurts you.
- Don’t let fear or insecurities have a handle on the genuine you.
- Be yourself, don’t worry about being judged, and don’t judge yourself.
- Forgive frequently. The person needing forgiveness didn’t know they offended you in many circumstances.
- Live in the present. Don’t be thinking about what you’re doing tomorrow, what happened yesterday, or how you’re going to react to something.
- You’re not always going to get your way. And thinking you will is a huge fallacy.
- Treat others like you want to be treated. It’s the Golden Rule many of us learned in elementary school.
- Learn something new each day.
- Do one random act of kindness each day.
- Time is your most precious resource. Spend it wisely.
- Take care of yourself – exercise, meditation, and massage. You are not indestructible.
- Enjoy life - have fun, laugh, walk in the rain, and play board games.
We often give ourselves excellent advice, but do we follow it, or do we find ourselves wallowing in self-pity. The above-listed items are gems of sage advice, and I hope you remember them. As the end of January 2022 quickly approaches, don’t let us forget to nurture our friendships and welcome new ones.
