It feels like the days and weeks in 2022 are flying by at a faster pace than last year. (I remember my mother saying how each year went by a little faster than the last.) So, I decided to get a jump on the next gift-giving holiday – Valentine’s Day.
I realize some people don’t get into all the holidays saying it’s just an excuse for companies to make more money on cards and gifts. But I look at it differently. It gives me a chance to let my husband and children (yes, I still give them a card or small gift) know how much I love them and cherish our relationship. I believe it’s important to remind our loved ones as often as possible - we are never sure when we might not be around.
I’d like to share a story about my first Valentine’s Day gift from my husband. We agreed we would get a puppy after our wedding in November (you know – to get us ready for children). We located a breeder in a small town north of Denver – so one evening after work we drove up there to see the dogs they had. This breeder was the sweetest older woman who loved her dogs. She was afflicted with debilitating arthritis, where she wasn’t even able to open her hands completely, but she managed to hug and kiss on them. She probably had about six puppies running around her kitchen – a small male white puppy named Max was particularly fond of me. Jumping all over my shoes trying to get me to pick him up. Well, we could tell Max was going to be a handful. Don noticed an older brown puppy underneath the table lying next to the breeder. He asked if that puppy was for sale. She said, “Oh, Cocoa?” We said yes. She said sure but that Cocoa was her favorite and she was a little older - four months old. The breeder reached down, picked Cocoa up, and placed her in my arms. I instantly fell in love. She was mellow and quite the cuddler. As we were driving home, Don leaned over and whispered to me, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”
After doing some research online, listed below are ten romantic Valentine’s Day gifts for 2022:
- Weighted Blanket
- Mini clip-on book light
- Teal’s Eucalyptus Epsom Salt & Foaming Bath Oil Sampler Gift Set
- Flux Collapsible 1.5-Liter Water Bottle
- Water Resistant Bluetooth Shower Speaker
- Candles https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/holidays/valentines-day-ideas/g38757574/best-valentines-day-candles/
- Love Language Card Game
- A set of custom stickers (made to look like your sweetheart or your pet)
- A 10-motor massage mat
- An Xbox Game Pass
Most of these items can be purchased on Amazon. When checking them out myself, I found several of these items on sale right now.
You also can’t go wrong with a bottle of your sweetheart’s favorite libation, especially when sharing it with a box of chocolates. The important thing is that you share some time together – only you and your sweetheart. As life gets filled with must do things, it’s such a special time to spend uninterrupted time together.
You might also design a cute gift card (on your computer of your own). Suggestions might be:
- A weekend away;
- A massage (by you or a local masseuse);
- A movie of their liking (popcorn and drink included);
- A manicure and pedicure; or
- Tour a local winery.
